I think we all know by now that recruitment is a fairly costly and lengthy process that many businesses not only struggle with, but regularly delay or postpone.

However, almost every business is going to need to replace lost staff or recruit for additional staff due to growth or alternative reasons at some point.

So why not find out how you can keep your recruitment costs down and candidate quality high?

1.   Skip the fancy technology

CRM tools, Candidate Screening Software and Applicant Tracking Systems can be helpful to have, however they aren’t financially viable for many businesses. Most businesses will not have the volume of applicants needed to make this type of technology worth it, and would therefore be much better off investing the money elsewhere.

2.   Upskill your current staff

Recruiting for roles that require less experience is generally easier than recruiting for roles that need a multitude of experience. So why not upskill your current staff and give them the skills and experience to do the bigger roles, and then look at recruiting someone with minimal experience so they can learn on the job?

(Check out our social media pages & other blogs for additional tips on recruiting for skills, not experience)

3.   Plan the time

Recruitment is primarily known to be a lengthy, hard process. But it doesn’t have to be! When doing the planning for your recruitment, take a look at the current climate and then think of a rough timeframe for finding candidates, conducting interviews and making offers to be sorted in. I say ‘rough’ timeframe as things don’t always go to plan!

4.   Don’t throw out candidates

As a recruitment company, we always have clients that discard certain candidates for small reasons, such as a spelling mistake in their CV. However, quite often when things don’t work out with other candidates, they ask to interview the person with the mistake in their CV and end up hiring them on the spot. So try not to discard people too quickly!

5.   Referral schemes

Referral schemes are a great employee incentive, as well as a way of potentially saving you money as you don’t have to source the candidate yourself. Employees will also have a good opinion on whether the person would fit in well with the business and team, which will most likely produce well suited candidates.

So you now have 5 ways to help reduce your recruitment costs, happy saving!
