Job Duties

As the Marketing, Brand and Comms Manager you will be Reporting to the Deputy Director of Marketing, you will be responsible for leading the Clients marketing team to ensure that the needs of our 16,000 student members are fully understood and they are successfully engaged in the activities and support that we provide.  

Duties (include but are not limited to):
·        Work with the Deputy Director of Marketing to ensure that the marketing team is supporting the organisation in achieving its vision, promises and tattoos, and translate this into clear strategic direction for members of the marketing team
·        Lead the team in providing high quality marketing materials to all departments within the company, ensuring that their ongoing needs are understood and that projects are completed within agreed timescales and budgets
·        Oversee the effective day-to-day direction and management of the Clients brand and identity to maximise member engagement
·        Oversee the effective use of research and data to make sure that they continue to understand the needs of their members and that we use this information to drive our work as a company.
·        Successfully communicate the purpose of the Client to their members, staff, and key stakeholders, including the wider university community 
·        Ensure that all records or personal information are in line with the General Data Protection Regulations  
·        Manage all external communications, PR and media activity undertaken by the Client, including relationships with local, regional and national news and media organisations

·        Undertake all aspects of line management for the Marketing team including leading and developing a team of marketing professionals to perform at the highest level, and overseeing all recruitment, induction, development and performance management of staff and volunteers
·        Ensure that all marketing activity is compliant with relevant legislation including, but not limited to, GDPR, PECR,CAM-SPAM and Media Law
·        Oversee the implementation and compliance of the Social Media Policy, Email Marketing & Surveys Policy and Procedures, and any others that are relevant to the Marketing department    
·        Support the development and management of clear systems and processes for managing marketing work undertaken on behalf of departments within the company, including design, print, digital, video, web, and social media 
·        Manage the marketing department budget, ensuring that they achieve the best value for money in all the work we undertake 
·        Manage their important relationships with university staff, particularly key contacts in the Communications and External Relations department 
·        Build and maintain effective relationships with external providers, including designers, agencies, and printers
·        Undertake individual projects as required for the benefit of students.
·        Undertake regular and appropriate CPD activities
·        All staff are expected to display a ‘hands on, can do attitude’ and participate in Union wide projects such as Elections, Summer Ball and Welcome Week, Exams Campaign throughout the year to support the achievement of organisational targets

Applicant Specification

Person Specification:
·        CIM Level 6 Qualified
·        Experience of managing client marketing activity within an agency or comparable structure
·        Able to think creatively and find effective creative solutions to complex problems
·        Strong management experience in a relevant field at a middle or senior level
·        Experience of leading and inspiring others in achieving organisational objectives
·        Experience of all aspects of Line Management, including recruitment, development, performance management and appraisal
·        Previous experience of project management and evaluation
·        Previous experience of setting and managing budgets and producing financial and statistical reports
·        Evidence of successfully achieving against organisational targets
·        Ability to ensure departmental compliance with GDPR Regulations
·        Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
·        Excellent problem solving, negotiating, and influencing skills
·        Ability to build and maintain effective networks internally and externally 
·        Evidence of continuing professional development at a senior level
·        Good IT skills i.e., word, access, excel
·        Holds a professional or management qualification or degree in a related area, or willing to undertake desirable 
·        Operational knowledge of risk assessments, health and safety and safeguarding considerations in relation to relevant activities desirable
·        Experience of managing communications and PR activity with external news and media organisations desirable 
·        Experience of developing and managing a successful brand and /or market research activity desirable 
·        Experience of using data to successfully inform desirable 
·        Understanding of the Higher Education environment in relation to the role desirable
